Although we're not in college, in my high school we have this class called IB Art and from what I hear from her and other people that are in it, it's a crapload of work. Her sketchbook is filled with studies of other art work and her own and she has write criticisms on other work. Not to mention that she has to present her art work to a college professor who critiques it and that is the deciding factor on if she will pass. A friend of mine can empathize with you.
